bubbles!

friday night i got a haircut.  i'm back to looking like joe dirt.  so very india-hip.

saturday night we went to a bathing suit fashion show.  there was free-flowing moet.  to actually have real champagne in this city that hasn't been ruined by the weather or poor storage is a rare treat.  now, to have that same thing for free?!  it can spell disaster for this girl.  let's just say that sunday was spent in bed until about 730 pm, at which time a bucket of extra-crispy kfc and greasy french fries saved my life... and then it was back to bed.

i'm missing my girlfriends a lot lately.  i've made some really wonderful friends here, but there's nothing like a friend who you've been close to for years, and who knows you in and out.  know what i mean?

dirty brainy blonde today

for some unknown reason, the power company decided to cut the electricity to our block today... for 9 hours.  we had warning, in the form of a memo from the building management, posted like a week ago.  now, the water for our building is stored in a tank on the roof, and started to run low a few days ago.  the water gets to the roof via an electrical pump in the basement.  you see where i'm going with this... the building management obviously did not... so today we had no power, no water, and because our internet comes from the building next door which was also powerless, no internet.  allllll day.  with 96 degree heat and stifling humidity, this apartment turned into a very stinky deathtrap.  QUICK.  so we made the best of the situation, by which i mean to say we grabbed the scrabble game and headed to the nearest 5-star hotel, where we basked in the plush, air-conditioned lobby for a 7-hour, 6 game marathon.  aaahh.

and yes, to answer your question, i did.  i kicked ASS.  4 games to his 2.

the big b was there (your cue to swoon)

so my first night of work was last night.  i agreed to start my job on may 1.  as you probably well know, it's still april.  like mid-april.  the boss asked me to help with the guest list at a little party he threw for wyclef, who is in india right now.  i was encouraged to invite friends.  i did.  i 'worked.'  the party was effing awesome.  there were VERY few people there, and me and 5 girlfriends drank, ate, smoked (no, not tobacco, silly!), and danced our faces off with wyclef and his band.  i like my new job.  i didn't even mind that i was working before i agreed to start the job.  it was fabulous.

and no, we did NOT take them up on their offer to go back to their hotel for the night, thank you very much for asking.  we are klassee.

a job?

so i interviewed yesterday (and again today, oddly enough) for a job with a bollywood music director.  he's looking for a westerner assistant/business manager type person.  sounds fun, could be interesting.  ... the trick will be getting him to pay me what i'm worth.  scratch that.  the trick will be getting him to pay me even HALF of what i'm worth!

be a dear and send me something, pretty please?  kthx.

i started taking private yoga classes twice a week at my friend's house.  she's awesome.  has never done yoga before, is probably 20 years older than i am, has a THICK mississippi accent, and giggles throughout the lesson.  i love her to pieces.

it's getting to the point where the a.c. stays on all the time.  it's so bloody hot and HUmid.  i'm not gonna last through summer!

oh... by the way.  if you were one of the few who got an 'i'm looking for a room to rent' email from me and are utterly confused as to what the hell is going on, here's the deal...  i heard that someone left my company and that there was a void to fill, so i sent out the email before getting the full low-down.  turns out the void is small, and i wouldn't be getting much business.  returning for 3-4 months just wouldn't be enough to make it worth the effort on my part or theirs'.  so unless something drastically changes, i'm here for the long haul.  which is just fine by me.  i'm in no rush to move back.  although i do very much miss my friends.

come visit me!

my new favorite person

i checked out mumbai fashion week and had the absolute pleasuh to meet the marvelous mr. mickey a couple days ago. such a wonderful creature!

on a not entirely unrelated subject, i'm about to post my cv on monster. i turn just a little too green when surrounded by so many gorgeous clothes and drool-inducing shoes. i should try to make a little dinero while i'm here so i can afford fabulous fashions. i've also been watching my biz at home slowly drift away, so i'm thinking it might be time to kick the bombay job search into high gear.

after sitting on my growing ass all freaking day waiting for the a.c. repairman to show up (he never did, nor did anyone call to say he wouldn't be coming, grrrrrr), i saw sara and meenakshi tonight. sara's fiiiiinally back from her asia travels and managed to give herself an eye infection. poor dear had slits where her bulging blue eyes normally are.

m's in delhi for 2 days. the guy's gone more than he is here, which is just fine by me cuz if he wasn't working, we'd hafta be outa here!

juliet, robbie, and the blonde go to goa

we left bombay (above); the stink, the smoke, pollution, haze, slums, nastiness and headed to goa (see below). r and j originally thought they wanted the 'true indian experience,' so we booked a train for the trip. trains tend to be cockroachy and the toilets are basically just holes that empty out onto the tracks... but they can be a great way to see the countryside and you can buy all the cheap chai you want. it's about a 12-hour ride, and ours was scheduled to leave at 530am. we were up around 3, got a cab, and headed downtown... only to find that in true india fashion, the train was at least 4 hours late. we were directed to a travel agent who very conveniently was located just outside the station, and who probably makes an absolute killing off people in our exact situation. for not much money at all, we got plane tickets for a flight leaving in 4 hours. even with the (what is starting to seem compulsory) 3-hour flight delay, we were still on the beach and relaxing looooooong before our train actually arrived in goa. needless to say, we flew both ways.

question: if you had to take a trip, and you had to fly, and your only two airline options were one called jetlite and one called spicejet, which would you choose?

anyway, we had a fabulous time. we ate lots, shopped, fried in the sun, got soaked in the rain, ate more, got massages that moved the table across the room, attended parties, played holi, went for early wee hour morning walks, shared about a billion belly-laughs, and then sat down for some 'boo-fay.' india is not the same without them.

juliet made a new friend and got mehndi'd

let's move to goa

... loves walks on the beach ...

apparently it is possible to have too much fun in the sun
