i had a dream the night before last that i came home to visit, and all i did while i was there was wish i was back in india. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?
i volunteered today at an orphanage in bandra. there are like 90 kids there ages 4-10ish. they're all street kids, some have families, some don't. there's a group of expat ladies who go up there once a week and hang out with the kids. do arts and crafts, sing songs, and teach them things like how to wash their hands (which until recently was a brand new concept to them). it was utter, absolute, and total chaos. the kids are nuts! hyper, crazy, noisy and insane. but so cute and so happy to see us. after spending an hour there, i'm in need of strong drink ... but that's not saying much for me! and i think i'll go again next week.
we went to chor bazaar last weekend. it's also called thieves bazaar and it's pretty obvious why. you can find anything there and every bit of it looks like it was lifted from somebody's apartment. tools, car parts, bike parts, furniture, antiques, 'antiques,' books, food, goats, porn, and at least a trillion other things i didn't see or will probably ever know about. it's dirty, stinky and sleazy. tourist websites would have you believe it's a great place to get amazing deals on stuff. sadly, that's not true. the vendors have realized its popularity and are not as keen on negotiating as they should be. we got a coffee table, in the form of an oversize faux-tique trunk. it's gonna hold a lotta shit, someday.
i have an interview tomorrow. it's with a realtor who lives and works downtown. this will be very interesting. the last time i encountered her, she told michael he had to wear long sleeves and 'trousers' if she was going to show us apartments. we made an appointment anyway. instead of coming to meet us, she sent her assistant who was 45 minutes late without the courtesy of a phone call. he got fired for this... and now she's looking for help.
the neighbors on the second floor, the ones with the fabulous terrace just below our apartment, the famous musician and his family ... are hosting a wedding in the terrace tonight. there are supposedly bollywood stars in attendance. i can't see any of it because they tented every, single inch of it and it's driving me crazy!

A) Awesome. You're doing the work of the lord by spreading the gospel of hand washing. Seriously though, good on ya'. It breaks my heart when I think of how little it would take to benefit so many so much, and you guys are doing it.
B) "something awesome needs to happen, like yesterday"... Yeah I've being saying that for months now. Local forecast doesn't seem to be saying there's any manna in the immediate forecast. Here's hoping the weather is different over there.
